The Benefits of Immersive Learning

Intermediate learners often get to a point where progress seems to slow down. Immersion pushes past this because it exposes learners to a variety of vocabulary, idioms, and grammatical structures in real-life contexts.

It provides the perfect environment to see grammar in action. You will stop worrying about the rules and focus on practical use.

Additionally, you will fine-tune your pronunciation and intonation when you get exposure to the real language.

What others said about the Intermediate Serbian podcast

Wonderful! I am a huge fan of this podcast. I am an American with Serbian parents and grandparents who were raised in the United States. Ever since going off to university, my Serbian has progressively gotten worse. This podcast allows me to review my Serbian and has improved my language retention tremendously. Hvala!

What is the best way to learn Serbian from the intermediate podcast?

First-time listening (without the learning materials)

  • First step. Listen to the episode of your choosing first and try to understand as much as you can. Don’t get upset if there are words or parts you don’t understand. The most important thing in your first listening is to figure out the context of the lesson.
  • Second step. Before starting a second listening, take a pen and paper. Write down every word or phrase you want to memorize or don’t understand. Once you finish, look up their meaning. Be aware of the context.
  • Third step. Once you are sure you comprehend the conversation, it’s time to practice. What would you say about this topic? Write a couple of lines about it and elaborate while speaking. You can even record yourself. When you listen to your recording afterward, notice mistakes and mispronunciations in your speech.

Optional. If it’s easier, do everything in writing first and then practice speaking.

  • Fourth step. Make sure to learn the most important bits from the lesson. Listen to them several times and repeat them out loud.

First-time listening (with the learning materials)

  • First step. Listen to the episode of your choosing first and aim for a general understanding.
  • Second stepNow that you understand the context you also want to pay attention to the details. Do the second listening while following the transcript. It will clear up misheard words and improve pronunciation by connecting sounds to written words. Repeat this step as many times as possible.
  • Third step. If there’s still something you don’t understand, open the vocabulary list for the episode. Here you will find all the important words translated into English. No need for Google Translate!
  • Fourth step. Once you’ve mastered new words and phrases, open the worksheet. It will help you with the most important vocabulary, expressions, and grammar from the lesson. Most intermediate and advanced lesson worksheets have a ‘fill in the gaps in the text’ exercise which is a real test of your comprehension of the lesson and your Serbian level in general.
