Pronunciation
Listening to the conversations with Dani and Chris, a native speaker and a non-native living in Serbia, will aid you in mastering Serbian sounds, proper word pronunciation, rhythm, and sentence structure.
The Benefits of Immersive Learning
Having an advanced level in Serbian means you are proficient in most aspects of the language. However, there are always some skills you want to refine. In most cases, students want to improve their speaking and listening comprehension to speak more fluently and confidently with the natives.
Immersive language learning helps you on several levels:
- Expands your vocabulary range. Unless you are in touch with the real language in different contexts it is impossible to expand your vocabulary, learn new words and expressions
- Fine-tunes your pronunciation and improves your accent. Only after hours of listening to the native speakers will your ear fully adapt to new sounds. You can’t produce new sounds if you don’t hear them well.
- You will have fewer problems listening to a fast-paced speech, different accents, and slang.

What is the best way to learn Serbian from the advanced podcast?
First-time listening (without the learning materials)
- First step. Listen to the episode of your choosing first and try to understand as much as you can. Don’t get upset if there are words or parts you don’t understand. The most important thing in your first listening is to figure out the context of the lesson.
- Second step. Before starting a second listening, take a pen and paper. Write down every word or phrase you want to memorize or don’t understand. Once you finish, look up their meaning. Be aware of the context.
- Third step. Once you are sure you comprehend the conversation, it’s time to practice. What would you say about this topic? Write a couple of lines about it and elaborate while speaking. You can even record yourself. When you listen to your recording afterward, notice mistakes and mispronunciations in your speech.
Optional. If it’s easier, do everything in writing first and then practice speaking.
- Fourth step. Make sure to learn the most important bits from the lesson. Listen to them several times and repeat them out loud.
First-time listening (with the learning materials)
- First step. Listen to the episode of your choosing first and aim for a general understanding.
- Second step. Now that you understand the context you also want to pay attention to the details. Do the second listening while following the transcript. It will clear up misheard words and improve pronunciation by connecting sounds to written words. Repeat this step as many times as possible.
- Third step. If there’s still something you don’t understand, open the vocabulary list for the episode. Here you will find all the important words translated into English. No need for Google Translate!
- Fourth step. Once you’ve mastered new words and phrases, open the worksheet. It will help you with the most important vocabulary, expressions, and grammar from the lesson. Most intermediate and advanced lesson worksheets have a ‘fill in the gaps in the text’ exercise which is a real test of your comprehension of the lesson and your Serbian level in general.
